How the two hours run

  1. Arrival & welcome

Guests arrive, coats away, name tags on. Fifteen minutes.

  2. The build

The main event, a real STEM project every child makes themselves. Around fifty minutes.

  3. Food & cake

Room reset while the kids test their builds, then pizza and cake at the table. Thirty-five minutes.

  4. Free build & goodbye

Makerspace time until parents arrive. Projects packed, floor cleared by us.

Not a weekend person? Weekday afternoon and evening parties are possible in term time around the class schedule. Ask us and we will find a slot.

Deposits, the date checker and a published weekend grid are proposals. Last year 19 party orders produced $2,640, about $139 each against a $699 list price, which says almost all party money is being settled off the website.

The themes

What they build

A wand project made at a themed party

Potions & Wands

Chemistry that fizzes and changes colour, plus a wand each. The most requested by some distance.

A glowing space-themed control panel project

Space Mission

Rockets, a glowing control panel, and a launch at the end of the session.

A LEGO robot built at a party

Robot Lab

Motors, wires and a machine that moves by the time the cake comes out.

A fibre-optic light project glowing in a darkened room

Light & Illusion

Fibre optics, infinity mirrors and colour tricks, the best one for photographs.

Party questions

How many adults can stay?

Two accompanying adults per party are expected and welcome, there is seating at the side. More is fine for younger groups; tell us at booking so we set out enough chairs.

Can we bring our own food and cake?

On the Basic package you bring everything edible. On Party Plus we handle pizza, water and juice, and you bring the dessert. Either way the space is nut-free, so please check labels.

What ages does this work for?

Best between 5 and 12. Under 5 works with a simplified build and more adults in the room, say so when booking and we will pick the right project.

What if fewer children turn up than we booked for?

You pay for the package plus the extra heads you confirmed the week before. If someone drops out on the day, their kit goes home with the birthday child.

Can you come to us instead?

For parties we host at Broad Street, because the projects need the kit. For schools and Scout groups we do travel, see Field Trips.

What about a sibling who is too young to join in?

They can sit with a parent in the makerspace corner at no charge, or join the build for $40 if they are old enough to want to.
